Singer for @Old97s, maker of solo LP’s, host of Wheels Off, author of kids’ books.
The lead singer and songwriter of alt-country mainstays Old 97’s, Texas-born Rhett Miller’s career started when he was just 18 years old. His first album, the acoustic _Mythologies_, was produced by future Old 97’s bassist Murry Hammond, and was released in very limited numbers. In 1994, it received a reissue, in time for the first Old 97’s album, _Hitchhike to Rhome_.
His early work, a mixture of folk and Britpop, would lay some of the foundation for his future material with Old 97’s, when he let some of the Texas musical influence seep into his writing. The Old 97’s released four more albums between 1995 and 2001.
After moving from Texas to Los Angeles, Miller headed into the studio in February 2002 without to record his first solo effort in 13 years, this time with help from acclaimed film soundtrack producer Jon Brion. Later in the year, _The Instigator_ was released.
